Red Sea Photography: Soma Bay Diving

Satellite map showing the Sinai Peninsula, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and the Red Sea with Hurghada and Safaga labeled.

When life on terra firma gets a bit grey, we head to the Red Sea. Just five ours flying time from Paris we land in Hurgada.

Labeled satellite map showing coastal areas and bays including Safaga and Soma Bay.

Our destination is Soma Bay, about 45km south of Hurgada and about 10km north of Safaga

A white diving boat docked at a marina under clear blue skies.

It is not our first time here, and as previously we are diving with Extra Fun Divers - Soma Bay. Our boat, from where we do most of our dives is the Forera 1.

More than enough space for a bunch of divers and all their gear for the day. This here is her work deck with all the equipment, and just behind the dive deck.

View of turquoise sea and distant pier from boat deck.

Abu Soma - Where we did a couple of dives. Amazing how the shallow coral reef, on top less than 1m deep drops off along walls of life and colour.

Gently floating over the coral plateau, dropping from 12m to 15m.
